Earth observation

Local environmental follow-up

One needs very detailed images to accurately observe soil and vegetation, or coastal areas and inland waterways. VITO has a wide range of high resolution equipment at its disposal, which is incorporated into manned and unmanned aircraft. This allows our cameras - which are equipped with hyper-spectral sensors - to deliver images with a very high level of spatial and spectral accuracy. VITO processes the images and provides you with the foundation for your detailed analysis.

Abnormalities in vegetation are quickly visible
We process the hyper-spectral data and subject it to, for example, vegetation studies for the detection of, for example, vegetation stress. Such small abnormalities are barely visible to the naked eye. Fungi and other crop diseases or stress factors can be quickly established thanks to our high resolution equipment. This allows you to take timely steps to optimise production.

Soil analyses for targeted environmental management
Whereas traditional measurement methods are restricted to very local measurement results, measurements using aircraft are able to provide detailed area-wide information. This provides you with a clear view on the sediment composition and eutrofication level in rivers, the local geology and the presence of minerals, vegetation stress,…

  • The follow-up of sediment transport through rivers and canals or the determination of silt fractions helps to highlight potential problems for inland waterways.
  • The analysis of sand composition and grain size provides concrete information for companies managing coastal and beach areas.
  • Dune belt studies indicate where the anchoring or stability of dunes can be improved and where urgent action needs to be taken.
