Diffuse soil and water pollutants and pollutants at mega-sites are difficult to control. Well-considered land and water management would be beneficial. VITO evaluates which combinations of remediation techniques help to prevent dispersion and neutralise risks. We examine the soil as well as the ground water, and the relationship between these. The scientifically substantiated techniques we employ include utilising parts of the site in another manner, phytoremediation, natural attenuation and biological remediation.
Remediating effectively and efficiently

An alternative is to neutralise health risks using biological or physicochemical in situ techniques, possibly in combination with natural attenuation.
