Identifying the exact cause
VITO also has innovative techniques at its disposal for detecting the source of an odour. Dispersion models are able to work retrospectively and identify (based on meteorological data) the location and emission of the source. Our experience with industrial processes quickly leads us to those processes or process conditions which contribute most to the emissions. We use special sampling techniques and chemical analyses to identify components which cause the odour nuisance, as well as the concentrations in which they are found.
