Multifunctional surfaces

Plasma and laser technologies offer many possibilities to create multifunctional surfaces. Specific surface properties improve the quality of your product or the efficiency of your production process. VITO helps you to look for the most suitable technology and supports your product innovations with expert research, advice and demonstrations.

Plasma technology for efficient printing, gluing and cleaning
Surface treatments with plasma offer an environmentally  friendly and cost-effective alternative to wet chemical processes. Plasma activation is currently being used for materials which are difficult to print or glue. Plasma cleaning is effective for metals and textiles that are polluted by oils, oxides, sulphides etc. The addition of suitable substances creates surface layers with combined properties. Would you like a combination of properties? VITO will develop a coating which is custom-made for your product.

Laser technology for wear and corrosion resistance
Modern laser techniques are fast and efficient. They also help to increase your productivity. Laser coatings improve resistance against wear and corrosion and extend the lifespan of metal components. A laser-welded metal matrix composite on steel components offers corrosion resistance and anti-wearing properties in, for example, the engineering industry. The laser allows these welded layers to be positioned accurately, which allows intelligent properties to be added - such as a position indicator or an advance warning of failure. The experts at the Flanders Laser Centre will help you to implement the various laser technologies in your company.

Start-up series
VITO also supports the start-up of your production. Our extensive infrastructure allows such demonstrations and test series.
