Wear and corrosion protection

You machines are susceptible to wear, friction and corrosion. You can extend the lifespan of your machine components by protecting them against these factors. This will allow you to reduce  maintenance costs at the same time. VITO has extensive material expertise and advises you on the most suitable technology for wear and corrosion prevention.

Detecting the problem
It is best to tackle the cause of wear or corrosion before you replace machines or components. You may thus decide that adjustments to the production process are sufficient. VITO will support you through its comprehensive knowledge of materials. We use microstructure research and simulation of friction and wear to establish the possible causes. For this, we have specialised measurements and tests at our disposal.

Preventing wear and corrosion
Frequent use, friction and aggressive substances are often difficult to avoid. However, you can protect your machines against them. VITO examines the best combination of sustainable technology as well as their economic feasibility. Here are a few examples:

  • We use plasma technology to apply friction-reducing coatings.
  • If such a thin layer is insufficient, then we apply wear-resistant coatings by laser or implement laser hardening.
  • For more extreme applications, we advise you to use ceramic materials. They combine, for example, hardness and wear-resistance and are able to resist very corrosive conditions.

VITO has the expertise to advise you on all of these technologies.

VITO also sets up small test series.

Test series
Once the most suitable technology has been identified, VITO develops a test series for the treated components. Thereafter, we help you to implement the technology in your company and support you in establishing your own production.
