MONITORING PHTHALATES IN FOOD
Phthalates are frequently used as softeners in plastics and as adhesives and ink for packaging. Some of these substances, however, are suspected of having health risks attached to them. They could disrupt the human hormone balance and impact fertility. At the request of the Federal Public Service (FPS) for Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment, VITO together with Ghent University studied the amount of phthalates we ingest via our food.
