At the conference “Advancing Exposure Science for Environmental Health”, organized by the International Society of Exposure Science (Baltimore, MD, 23-27th October 2011), VITO chaired the symposium “Interpretation and Communication of Biomonitoring Survey Data: How Deep is the Atlantic?” in association with the “Consortium to Perform Biomonitoring on a European Scale”, better known as COPHES (more info www.eu-hbm.info (new window)).
During the symposium, the presenters outlined the various methods used for interpreting and communicating biomonitoring data in the Flemish, German, American and Canadian Human Biomonitoring programmes. Additional attention was given to the way COPHES tries to harmonize the communication with participants, stakeholders and policymakers in the harmonized European biomonitoring program.
In the presentation about the Flemish Human Biomonitoring program, VITO-expert, Roel Smolders, focused on the need for openness and cooperation that is needed to warrant participation of policymakers, scientists and the general public in the program.
