Waste screening at landfills

Assessing portable XRF

Before a load of waste is accepted at a landfill, it is analysed. Portable XRF units appear to be a promising method to quickly, cost effectively and easily screen waste on site. VITO examined the results obtained by these units in analysing various types of waste. VITO researchers are presently using the output of this study to draw up European procedures for the use of portable XRF units at landfills.
