VITO collaborates with public authorities as follows:
- Contract research: VITO applies for public tenders in his domain
- Reference tasks: VITO and the Flemish government agree on long-term contract in specific domains where VITO can support Flemish public agencies and administrations
- Co-financing research: VITO applies for co-funding in public research funding programs (e.g. regional, federal, European, international, ...)
- Joint research: VITO and public agencies define a common research program and jointly apply for additional funding (e.g. Life)
- Joint societal support: VITO and public agencies define a common program with innovation-linked societal / economical impact
