Project Objectives

  • integration and interoperability of in-situ stand-alone sensors and sensor networks within a European web system dedicated to crisis management (alert and response phases),
  • four live demonstrations. For VITO: forest fire using airborne remote sensing system and air quality after an industrial accident using the VITO PC-Puff model.

Methodology
Data acquired in real time with an airborne remote sensing system on the “remote site” were transferred via satellite uplink to the VITO Central Data Processing Center (CDPC) for further processing. Image products generated in real-time were accessible to end users via web services (including catalogue) as defined by OGC standards. For the air pollution scenario, the PC-Puff model has been run at the VITO site from a remote place (using web services) in order to estimate the pollutant concentrations in real-time. Meteorological data (wind direction and wind speed) were provided in real time by a small Unmanned Aerial Vehicle flying at the remote site.

(Expected) Results

  • Production in “near real-time” of geo-referenced composite images acquired using a high resolution video camera.
  • Production in real-time of pollutant concentrations maps..
