Vlaanderen heeft een sterk uitgebouwd milieu- en energiebeleid, dat op meerdere terreinen voorloper is in Europa. Dit vormt een bron van inspiratie voor andere regio’s/landen en de Europese Commissie. Vanuit de kennis van het beleid, at arm’s length’ van zowel milieuadministraties als industrie, is VITO de voorbije jaren uitgegroeid tot een prominente speler op Europees vlak rond ondersteuning van milieu- en energiebeleid.
